A short history of Alghero
Alghero is located on the northwest coast of Sardinia. With its 80 km of coastline (which are 6 km of the beach of Lido, just 100 meters from the B&B Edera&Giglio), is one of the most famous and beautiful of Sardinia. In Alghero there are many sites of archaeological interest and natural beauty, first of all the historical center of the Catalan-Aragonese that still retains the 400 years of Spanish rule in its architecture and in the dialect. Alghero is in fact the only Sardinian town that speaks the ancient dialect of Catalan.
On the road from Alghero to Capo Caccia promontory you can admire the Nuraghe Palmavera, witness to the civilization that inhabited in the Neolithic throughout the area in Alghero.
Then you will see the protected marine area of Porto Conte until you get to one of the most important natural sites: the Caves of Neptune can be toured by land, along the picturesque “Escala del Cabirol” with about 700 stepsand by sea with breathtaking view by a boat from the port of Alghero until the caves.
We’d be happy to put at your disposal our knowledge of Sardinia to reach other places of cultural interest such as the great “muralla” in the historic center of Alghero and naturalistic interest such as the beaches of Mugoni, Porticciolo, Porto Ferro, Le Bombarde, Maria Pia, La Speranza and around, the beautiful La Pelosa, in Stintino.
Will we also suggest you on places and activities in the hinterland of Sardinia (lakes, mountains and farm holidays) to make unique your holiday in Alghero.
